SL Interphase Raising Funds on Kickstarter for Robot Project Logitraxx

Chandler, AZ (PRWEB) July 24, 2014

SL Interphase has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of its first robot kit called Logitraxx. Logitraxx is unique in the hardware space as it utilizes an FPGA for more than simply assisting a processor with hardware acceleration, but instead relies solely on its FPGA for all processing duties.

You may have seen modern day PCs off-load 3D graphics and physics engines to hardware accelerators via external graphics cards with enormous speed lifts. SLI’s pushes this idea to the extreme making the entire device hardware based. SLI has designed and built a couple of technology demonstrators detailing the steps necessary to build sensor and motor control algorithms, as well as decision making statemachines. All this is part of an autonomous educational robot designed to help other enthusiasts interested in the idea get a jump start on building their own hardware based autonomous robots.

Unlike the traditional microprocessor (CPU) which executes its instructions sequentially in one-at-a-time fashion, FPGAs can do hundreds of tasks simultaneously.

Modern FPGAs now have internal RAM blocks that can be fully customized with digital signal processor (DSP) slices, and integrated high speed transceivers. When combined with its virtually unlimited logic combinatorial possibilities, FPGA internals can be assembled like silicon legos into some very powerful hardware.

The Logitraxx campaign will fund until August 24 with a delivery scheduled to be in time for the Christmas holidays. For information, see the campaign page.

SL Interphase is an electronic design services company specializing in product development for commercial, industrial, and defense industries. We are also specialized in rugged electronics development for extreme environments. At SLI, we can handle all aspects of the development cycle from concept to production. For information, visit our website or email us at info(at)sl-interphase(dot)com.

Compton, CA (PRWEB) July 25, 2014

Industry leading retailer of aftermarket parts for off-roading, 4 Wheel Parts, is one of the sponsors of the upcoming All-4-Fun Jeep event in Colorados Rocky Mountains. Organized by the Mile-Hi Jeep Club, the All-4-Fun wheeling and activities span from July 27 August 2 in Silverton, Colorado. Happenings include wheeling trips, a parade, suspension testing, a competition and barbecues.

Since 1967, the Mile-Hi Jeep Club has staged the event in the Colorado Rockies. All-4-Fun rotates its locations and this will be the sixth time it has been held in Silverton. The trail rides allow participants to drive at the level they are comfortable with that is suitable to their vehicle. Its smaller and more intimate, with daytime trail runs and nightly events under a big top tent.

Its my first time and Im excited to go, says Jeremy Huskey, Denver 4 Wheel Parts Store Manager. Were going to have a vehicle recovery-type obstacle course which will be new to the All-4-Fun event. There are already over 200 vehicles registered, so its going to be pretty big for the Mile-Hi Jeep Club.

Vendors and sponsors for the weeklong event include Bestop, Poison Spyder, Superchips, and Synergy Mfg. There will be an entire day dedicated to vendors who will be selling Jeep parts and accessories. 4 Wheel Parts is presenting a Vehicle Necessities Competition on Wednesday, July 30 at 8 p.m.

EXpressLO LLC Granted Second U.S. Patent for Innovative Specimen Preparation Methods

Lehigh Acres, FL (PRWEB) July 29, 2014

EXpressLO LLC, expert provider of focused ion beam (FIB) ex situ lift out specimen preparation solutions, has been granted patent number 8,789,826 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for specimen manipulation methods incorporating a unique specimen carrier support grid design described in U.S. Patent 8,740,209. This is the second company patent for EXpressLO LLC awarded to founder and President, Dr. Lucille A. Giannuzzi.

These complementary patents extend EXpressLOs portfolio of intellectual property. The EXpressLO carrier support grid and lift out methods for manipulating and holding site specific FIB prepared specimens allow research scientists and engineers to perform characterization and analyses by electron microscopy or other analytical instrumentation. With the patented support grids and method, lift out and manipulation of specimens are performed outside the FIB on an EXpressLO station, reducing the capital cost of specimen preparation by more than 90 percent. In addition, the newly released Pick&Place holder kit incorporates a dual pin EXpressLO grid holder and leveling device to maximize geometries used for the patented lift out process and post lift out FIB processing. The EXpressLO lift out process benefits FIB users in industry and universities in both the life sciences and physical sciences.

The unique specimen support grid design and flexible lift out methods allow for fast, easy, and reproducible FIB specimen preparation with the added benefit of post-processing capabilities, stated Dr. Giannuzzi. An expensive FIB instrument is no longer needed for the complicated and time consuming specimen preparation manipulation process.

EXpressLO LLC will showcase this solution at the following upcoming conferences/exhibits: IUMAS-6 and Microscopy & Microanalysis 2014 in Hartford, CT August 2-7, 2014; the 18th International Microscopy Congress (IMC) in Prague, Czech Republic, September 7-12, 2014; and the 40th International Symposium for Testing and Failure Analysis (ISTFA) in Houston, TX, November 9-13, 2014.

USO Programs Strengthen Military Families and Support Military Kids as They Head Back to School

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) August 11, 2014

There are more than 1 million school-aged children with a parent serving in the U.S. military. As American families are excitedly preparing for a new school year, many of these military children are coping with the challenges of changing schools, making new friends, or returning back to school without a parent or loved one. In the months leading up to the new school year, as it does year round, the USO will host a variety of programs and services designed to build healthier, stronger and more resilient military families.

The best way Americans can show their support for these remarkable children is by joining the USO in building stronger military families. This month and into September, the USO will host more than a dozen programs designed to strengthen family bonds, create environments of fun and sharing for families, as well as help families cope with the stressors of military living.

Military children are some of the strongest and most courageous children in the world, said USO Vice President of Warrior and Family Care Ed Shock. The USO wants to make sure these amazing kids have strong families to support them, which is why our Warrior and Family Care programs are available year round at locations around the world.

Getting through those initial weeks of school can be difficult and involves a lot of adjustment but more serious issues typically do not arise until kids have settled into their day-to-day routines, with that in mind this fall the USO and Trevor Romain will be taking the With You All The Way! tour overseas to support military families in the Pacific. Kicking-off October 14th in Japan and wrapping up October 31st in Guam, the tour will provide military kids with the tools necessary to cope with bullying, adjust to life during and post-deployment, and coping when a parent makes the ultimate sacrifice. In addition to visiting elementary and middle school-aged children, Romain will be taking his motivational, inspirational and humorous antics to military high schools and piloting his new teen program designed to help young teens cope with the stresses of high school and military living. At each presentation military families will receive a kit of useful resources such as kid-friendly videos and journals, a new handy resource video for parents made possible by The Coca-Cola Company, a proud sponsor of the Trevor Romain With You All The Way! program – will be available as part of the Pacific USO tour.

In the coming months, military parents can take advantage of a number of USO programs to help ease their children back into the school year, including:

The Little Champs, military children move on an average of six-to-nine times between Kindergarten and 12th grade, attending multiple schools during that time. In an effort to support these children and honor the sacrifices they make, the USO partners with mother-daughter team Debbie and Jennifer Fink, co-authors of The Little Champs book, to send messages of hope and support to military families. The Little Champs book focuses on five CHAMPS who endure issues common to life as a military child from deployment to when a parent returns home wounded, this fall Fink will take her inspirational book overseas to military families in Korea, September 13-22, 2014.

Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families, kicked-off its eighth USO tour experience with military families at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois on April 3, 2014, and will visit nine more installations this month alone. Since its debut in July 2008, the Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families has taken its message of support to more than 445,000 troops and military families, helping them to cope with the challenges of deployments and homecomings. For a complete list of tour stops click here.

TAPS USO Good Grief Camp, these camps are specifically targeted to support military children between the ages of 6 17 years of age, grieving the loss of a parent or sibling in the Armed Forces. The three-day camps provide children and teens a safe and supportive atmosphere to participate in activities, learn coping skills, establish and identify support systems and create awareness that they are not alone in their grief. TAPS camps will be held at various locations throughout the months of August and September including Texas, Alaska, Wisconsin, Utah, Colorado and West Virginia.

Hennessey Venom GT World Record Run Featured in “Breaking Barriers” One-Hour Television Documentary on NatGeo

Sealy, Texas (PRWEB) May 05, 2014

Brian Smith, driver of the Hennessey Venom GT on that memorable February day at Kennedy Space Center, was concise and to the point as company founder John Hennessey and CEO Don Goldman sprinted over and knelt by the Venom GT’s open window. Moments before, the Venom GT had rocketed down the Shuttle Landing Facility’s runway, tearing a hole in the atmosphere at roughly four times the speed of typical traffic on the Interstate. Brian loosened his harness, popped his helmet’s visor and said what we wanted to hear: “Two seventy.”

Two simple words, words that were the culmination of years of unwavering vision, dogged dedication, development, testing, and burning midnight oil by the 55-gallon drum. We’d set the world speed record for production cars of 270.49 mph and joined a very special brotherhood, the likes of which include speed record icons such as SoCal Speed Shop’s Alex Xydias, Bonneville legend Craig Breedlove, and driver of the supersonic Thrust SSC, Andy Green. Now, through a Pennzoil-sponsored documentary, our efforts and theirs are brought to life in vivid detail.

“Breaking Barriers” tells the story of the people behind the speed, provides insight into their personalities and will give viewers a new appreciation for what goes into record attempt, from the earliest days of motoring through 1950s’ hot rodding to the cutting-edge efforts of today. The documentary, co-produced by MediaCom and the Bandito Brothers (the group that brought filmgoers the recently released “Need For Speed,” and 2012’s No. 1 box office hit “Act of Valor”), premieres on the National Geographic Channel on May 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern & Pacific/7 p.m. Central (check your local listings). The Bandito Brothers, hailed as the action-adventure studio of the future, capture the personalities and machines in an immersive film-making style that draws the viewer into the experience.

Country music superstar Tim McGraw narrates the documentary, bringing the TV special to life through his unique patriotic perspective and love of cars. “Throughout history, there are lots of examples of those who dreamt big and risked it all to break down barriers,” said McGraw. “This documentary takes a look at some of those regular people turned icons who blazed trails as they evolved automotive machinery throughout history.”

Said John Hennessey: “Achieving the world record has been a collective dream of ours, and we’re thrilled to have it documented in ‘Breaking Barriers.’ Not only did we end up with a record, but also a better car and better team. We are very grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way, especially the team at Pennzoil.”

“We all knew the Venom GT was capable of getting the number,” said Don Goldman. “The hard part was finding a runway long enough to get the job done. We can’t thank the Kennedy Space Center and PPR team enough.”

The documentary was inspired by the launch of Pennzoil Platinum with PurePlus Technology, the new line of synthetic motor oils made from natural gas that can be found in every Hennessey vehicle built today. Pennzoil wants to recognize automotive icons that share the brand’s undying passion for knowledge, advancement, and love of cars that led to this innovation in motor oil.
